St. Mary’s Altar Society was organized in June 1995 and
consists of 5 committees (Decorations, Flowers, Hospitality, Linens and
Liturgical Supplies). The committees were realigned in December 2001 to coincide
with each committee’s specific function. In addition, each committee was
assigned a chairperson. The responsibilities for each committee are:
Decorations
- responsible
for all church decorations (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas). The
chairperson for this committee is Trish Theriault (973)-627-4122.
Flowers -
receive altar flower requests, order flowers and submit “special
intention” for publication in parish bulletin. The chairperson for this
committee is Linda Lash (973)625-3914. For
additional information regarding flower orders, please refer to “Altar
Flowers” description.
Hospitality
- coordinates
Narthex social functions (Coffee and???). The chairperson for this committee
is Carol Blum (973)328-6444.
Linens
- responsible for cleaning/laundering altar linens, and vestments. The chairperson for
this committee is Marie Dalton, (973)627-5669.
Liturgical
Supplies - responsible for equipment/supplies needed for the church(
(candles, wine, vestments, and altar cloths).
The chairperson for this
committee is Noreen Panek, (973)586-8952.
With
this new structure, the Altar Society operates very efficiently. The group meets
4 to 5 times a year. Overall,
volunteer hours do not exceed 5 hours per month and we would encourage all
parishioners to consider this ministry. Assistance
is always needed with Decoration and Hospitality functions.
