625-3914 This parish ministry operates as a committee of the St. Mary's Altar Society.
As chair of the committee, my responsibility is to accept requests from
parishioners for altar flowers, order the flowers from a local florist, and
submit the "special intention" to the parish secretary for publication
in the church bulletin.
The following steps are taken:
- Request for flowers for either main or tabernacle altar is telephoned to
committee chair at least two weeks prior to date requested.
- Payment for flowers is sent to chair (2 bouquets for main altar cost a
total of $60; 2 bouquets for tabernacle altar cost a total of $30.).
- Chair places the order with a local florist.
- Payment is forwarded to parish secretary along with the "special
intention" to be included in Sunday bulletin.
- Flower Committee waters flowers and removes when necessary.
- Chair also handles ordering flowers supplied by the church for First
Communion and Confirmation weekends.
- No flower orders are accepted for weekends when weddings are scheduled,
nor during the seasons of Advent and Lent, as well as two weeks following
each, since plants are used to decorate the altar.
