Thank you to all who
have supported our Social Justice effort for Hope House. Those who come
to Hope House for a warm meal are continually thanking us, and tell us
that
Thursdays are a special day for them. The people who plan and prepare
the meals continue to be so generous of heart, time and talent, along
with all who donate to this cause. Last week, Mrs. Gerry Taormina
donated some beautiful, warm quilts to our homeless brothers and
sisters. As they prepare to weather a cold winter, there is also a need
for plastic tarps (large) and warm blankets and sleeping bags. If you
wish to donate items, please call Trish at the rectory before dropping
them off.
We sometimes hear
people say that the homeless are this way by choice, because they’re
lazy, addicted, or because they don’t want to work. I have learned from
delivering meals to Hope House, and speaking with the people who come
there, that the circumstances of their lives run much deeper than we can
imagine. We should all remember that when Jesus commissioned us to feed
the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, he didn’t say to
qualify it first. He just said to do it.
We are blessed
with the opportunity to share our gifts. |
