The St Mary's Family Faith Formation program/FFF, (formerly CCD) is a religious education program for children of the parish in grades 1-8
The parish elementary FFF program endeavors to assist parents who are the primary religious educators of their children. The program provides for the formal religious education of the children, whether through our Children's Liturgy of the Word, ideal for students in P/K-gr 2 or our newly formed Family Faith Formation program for students and their parents in grades 1-8. Students are prepared for the sacraments of Holy Communion, Reconciliation and Confirmation.
The program seeks to assist parents in their task of instructing children in the Catholic faith - our beliefs, values and practices. It also strives to assist parents in teaching the children what it means to be a follower of Jesus and the importance of a Eucharistic-centered life.
The program of instruction for children in grade 1 through grade 8 presents the concepts of God, the importance of the Mass, the Commandments, the Sacraments, Works of Mercy, Mary, Saints and Church in a manner appropriate to the children's level of understanding. Grade 2 students focus on the preparation for reception of the Sacraments of 1st Reconciliation & 1st Communion, which actually begins in grade 1 with the introduction of prayers: Sign of the Crosss, Our Father, Hail Mary and The Glory Be. Confirmation preparation is presented to the students in grades 6, 7 & 8.
The Confirmation preparation in grades 6-8 includes instruction, works of Mercy via service hours and faith points, attendance in Triduum (credit given for participation from gr 4) and is a 3 year program that exposes the students to the pillars of the Catholic church: creed, prayer, sacraments and morality.
Our program encourages full participation in the prayer life of the parish. All students, along with their familiess will learn the various prayers, experience different ways of praying, will study the Mass, the greatest form of prayer and worship and are required to attend Mass weekly and Holydays of Obligation. FFF is not a substitute for mass. Parental and family support and attendance is a crucial component to the program.
The program also encourages service to the Christian community. Children are invited to participate in the monthly parish food drive for the needy, feeding the poor ministry and in the Lenten collection for the poor.
Classes are held select Sunday mornings September through June after the masses at 8:15 & 10am.
